“Making everyday a Mandela day”

Given the passing of our beloved grand-father on the 5th December 2013, as a special tribute, we decided to start early this year with the “Mandela Day” project. In the true spirit of “making everyday a Mandela Day”, Linda Masinga & Associates (LMA) built a house which was donated to Mrs. Mzimela.

LMA is currently building low cost houses in a rural area of Mombeni (near Eshowe) and a destitute family from Makhalimba nearby was identified as a beneficiary to this new home. The family was selected with the assistance of the Mayor of Umlalazi Municipality.

When the house was completed and after the family had moved in, we closed our office on the 15th May 2014 and made a trip to meet Mrs. Mzimela who is now a proud new home owner, see photo below.

BACKGROUND ON MRS. MZIMELA

Mrs. Mzimela was identified by the Mayor of Umlalazi Municipality (Eshowe) as a destitute family within the municipality and in dire need of a new home, hence the donation. Her husband passed away a few years back and she lives with her three children and one grandchild. Before the house was donated to her family, she lived in two dilapidated rondavels which leaked badly during the rainy season (see photo below).

Mrs. Mzimela does not have a job and has been unemployed for a long time. She is able to make ends meet through temporary jobs from the neighbouring homes where she provides cleaning services. Their first born (Zinhle) who is now 30 years old is a domestic worker nearby, while the second born is in Grade 11 (Ncebo) and the last born is in Grade 9 (Nhlakanipho). Her grandchild (Fezeka) is in pre-school.

Given that we are approaching the winter season, Linda Masinga & Associates (LMA) also gave her a donation of a blanket on that day. Mrs. Mzimela is most grateful for her new home and is happy that her family now have a decent home.
